FAQ
What types of welding do you use to make bikes?
I build bicycles with these joining methods: tig welding, fillet brazing, and lugs. All three work great, it just depends on how a customer wants their bike to look and how much they want to spend.
Is one type of weld stronger than the other?
They are equally strong. It's more about what you aesthetically want the bike to look like.
What do Retrotecs ride like?
Retrotecs ride like a bike.
Can I get a catalog?
No. We are no longer making catalogs. We would like to save a tree or two and have put a lot of time and effort into this website instead. You will find tons of information, photos, pricing and an order form all right here on the site.
How much do frames weigh?
4–6 pounds, depending on which model you order and your size. If you are a light person and don't ride like a meathead, we can build you a light frame. If you are heavy and ride like a meathead, we need to build you a heavier frame.
What is the lightest Retrotec model you make?
The Retrotec Half frames are the lightest.
Turn around time on frame orders?
There is a 3–4 month turn around once we receive a completed order form anddeposit, depending on the number of pending orders at a given time.
How much deposit do you require?
50% of quoted frame price.
Do you accept credit cards?
We accept PayPal, but we add the 3% they charge us on to the customer's total. How do I know my bike is done?
Don't worry, we will call or email you. Calling and emailing us on a regular basis asking if your bike is finished does not finish your bike any faster, in fact the time we spend answering your calls and emails only slows down the process for you and other customers. We know you are excited about getting your new frame and we are happy to be making you a bike, we just like to focus our energies on building as much as possible.
Who are the "WE" you talk about when building frames?
WE are Curtis Inglis, my dogs April and Max, and occasionally my wife Mitzi. I get tired of saying "I" all the time.
