+30 years bendin' tubes

I’ve been building bicycles for over 30 years. Not as a brand exercise, but because I love working with my hands and understanding how things work.

I’ve always been drawn to mechanical things. Old cars, motorcycles, bikes, you name it. Fixing them, modifying them, ride them- it's what makes me tick.

Origin stories

Getting creative

It all started when Bob Seals wanted to go mountian bike racing with his ol' cantilever cruiser. Some experimentation, and a little craft birthed the first Retrotec frame. Bob went shredding, and the rest is history.

First ride

Taking the wheel

I began building Retrotec bikes in 1993 on Bob’s ranch in Chico, California. We spent long summer days brazing mountain bikes between racing, riding, and just having fun. In 1995, with Bob's blessing, I moved the brand, and all my belongings to San Francisco.

Building a brand

Making bikes work

In the years after, I built curved-tube curiosities for riders willing to take a different path. What began as an unconventional idea (that bikes could be beautiful AND strong) gradually became a story riders around the world connected with.

30+ years

Still rollin' along

Over thirty years on, I'm still stoked to be bending, mitering, and brazing away in my Napa shop. I’m proud of how the brand has grown and connected with so many riders around the world and looking forward to what comes next.
